Biography

Justin Gray is a graduate student in the Mechanical Engineering department at The University of Alabama, where he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Srinivasan. Born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Justin developed an early interest in engineering and sports, particularly football.

Justin attended Alabama A&M University for his undergraduate studies, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering and graduating in 2015. His research interests include combustion, with a focus on alternative fuels and renewable energy. Currently, Justin is working on a project titled “CIDI and Dual Fuel Combustion,” which explores the concept of using a mix of diesel and an alternative fuel, such as natural gas or butanol. In this process, the diesel ignites, initiating the combustion of the gaseous fuel. This setup boosts efficiency, and reduces emissions like NOx and CO2, and allows for fuel flexibility. Dual fuel CIDI engines are used in heavy-duty trucks, marine engines, and power generation. Justin’s research aims to enhance performance while minimizing environmental impact.

Justin’s skill set includes advanced mathematics, experimental design, data analysis, CAD (Computer-Aided Design), and project management. He is also an active member of NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) and SREB (Southern Regional Education Board) as a member of their Doctoral Program.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Justin enjoys music, sports, and anything health and wellness related.
