Ashley James is a Ph.D. student and researcher in the Engines and Combustion Lab (ECL) at The University of Alabama. Ashley joined the ECL in fall of 2019 as an undergraduate student working on thermoacoustic instabilities as well as the development of advanced optical diagnostics. She graduated with her BS in Mechanical Engineering in May of 2023. Thereafter, she started her Ph.D. program as a Graduate Council Fellow and is presently working on optical diagnostics, with a primary focus on Rotating Detonation Engines (RDEs). She aims to optimize RDE performance through characterizing various injection schemes and combustor geometries by simultaneously quantifying fuel breakdown and fuel oxidation processes during the detonation event.
