James is a PhD student and a researcher in the Engines and  Combustion Lab (ECL) at The University of Alabama (UA). James joined ECL in Fall 2014 and has been working in the Heavy-Duty Diesel Test Cell on projects sponsored by Cummins. His research focuses on the optimization of heavy-duty diesel engine, load control, emissions, and fuel consumption. He applies advanced PID control methods and machine learning methods to model and control diesel engines and their subsystems. James completed his BS in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech.
