Kayla Bell is a PhD student and researcher in the Engines and Combustion Lab (ECL) at The University of Alabama (UA). Kayla completed her BS in Mechanical Engineering at UA in 2019 and joined the ECL thereafter. Since joining the lab, she has worked on a NASA funded radial rotating detonation engine (RDE) project. Her research focuses on the characterization of the internal and post-combustive flow field of RDEs through high-fidelity computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling. She primarily studies the effect of geometric profiling on engine performance and operability.
