Zachary Harris is a PhD student and researcher in the Engines and Combustion Lab (ECL) at The University of Alabama (UA). Zachary joined the ECL after graduating from UA with his BS in mechanical engineering in 2017. His work is focused on developing computational methods for modeling supercritical fluid behavior, including the implementation of tabulated fluid properties in CFD simulations to allow for greater flexibility in property modeling and improved computational efficiency. He has also applied machine learning techniques to address challenges in data processing where advanced property model solvers fail to converge. He is applying these techniques to expand the current understanding of phase regimes, particularly for continuous-phase mixing in high-pressure fuel injection. His research has also included work on development of advanced optical techniques using the continuous flow pressure rig (CPFR) to characterize fuel injections.
